    Description

USS MONROVIA APA 31, 1951 TF 118 OPERATION BLUEJAY Cruise Book and 3 items.
Cruise book covers the period from 12 June to Sept 5, 1951. Monrovia was the Flag / HQ ship for TF188 to supply the build of Thule Air Base, Greenland.
Hard cover, post and screw binding. Only center crew remains. 3 to 4 pages have pulled out but are complete. The first and last page have some edge wear, chipping and small tears. All others pages are very good.
On the back cover faded is written the word, “Egan’s”.
No writing on pages was noted.
The condition would be considered “Poor to Fair”. Slight crinkle on the outer edge binding but not torn.
Back story - Operation Blue Jay was initially a military secret project, as the family members were unaware of his participation until many years later. As the late veteran just entered the service, this was his first cruise, he rarely spoke of it. He was a (SA), (SN) at the time. It should be noted he retired as BMCS in 1972.
This cruise book is in “Poor to Fair” shape put contains an amazing history of this period.
All pages are intact. A few are separated from the “post and screw” binding. Only the center post remains.
The cruise book was found in a typical “sea locker” in the veteran’s late mothers’ home. The sea locker was in fair condition. The cruise book was scanned and enhanced copies were given to remaining family members. As they had no desire to retain the cruise book, a good home for it was desired by all.
Item 2, 8”x 10” Kodak color photo of the USS Monrovia. Very good condition, slight dimple on top center.
Item 3, Photo of original Thule Greenland Base Operations building. Exact date, unknown. Salvaged picture from scrap book. A piece of tape and very small tear at top center, otherwise very good condition.
    Additional pictures available on request.
Item will be placed in 4 mil poly bag, sealed and padded before packaging.
