Description
VINTAGE WONDERGRAM BY EMERSON (BAIRD OF ENGLAND)FROM THE EARLY 1960'S
PORTABLE RECORD PLAYER, RUNS ON 4 C BATTERIES
WITH CASE, PLAYS BOTH 45 AND 33 RPM RECORDS USING A VERY
CLEVER SET UP: TWO DRIVE WHEELS, ONE CONTACTS A 45, THE OTHER
CONTACTS THE 33, AND THE DISTANCE THEY ARE FROM THE CENTER OF
THE RECORD DETERMINES THE SPEED!
AUTOMATIC ON WHEN THE TONE ARM IS RELEASED, SUPPOSED TO
STOP WHEN IT REACHES THE CENTER ESCAPE, I DIDN'T TEST, SHOULD WORK,
BUT EASY TO REPAIR, JUST CONTACTS.
IT WORKS, AND SPINS THE RECORD WITH NO ASSIST
HOWEVER, VOLUME IS LOW, I CAN HEAR IT THROUGH THE
SPEAKER, BUT FROM ALL THE BLOGS ABOUT IT, THE CAPACITORS
ARE TOO OLD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED (THREE OF THEM)
EASILY ACCESSED BY REMOVING THE EIGHT SHORT PHILIPS HEAD SCREWS,
2 ON SIDES, 2 ON BACK SIDE, AND TWO ON TOP, FRONT.
I TESTED IT WITH A POWER SUPPLY, BUT THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS
TEST OKAY.
NEEDLE WORKS, BUT COULD BE REPLACED WITH AN
ELECTRO-VOICE 51 (EV-51)
ISSUES OTHER THAN THE VOLUME:
FOAM RUBBER ALL BUT GONE, AS SHOWN ON BATTERY COMPARTMENT LID
RUBBER FEET MOSTLY GONE, A BIT OF SHRINK WRAP WOULD FIX THAT
STRAP ON CASE IS BROKEN, VERY HARD AND DRY, AS IS THE
60 YEAR OLD LEATHERETTE CASE, BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE BRIGHT!
A REALLY FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS PLAYER. HOPING TO FIND A GOOD HOME
WITH SOMEONE WHO COULD REPLACE THE CAPACITORS!
THE SCHEMATIC SHOWN IN THE PHOTO, I HAVE A PRINTOUT, WHICH WILL
BE INCLUDED.
THE 45 RECORD (ELVIS!) IS NOT INCLUDED!
