Description
******* PLEASE READ ******** PLEASE READ ********For your consideration is this beautiful specimen of a quality vintage turntable. This is an old one, I believe manufactured in 1959. That's old!
D&R LTD of Santa Barbara turntable model DR-12B
This turntable was converted from idler wheel to belt drive. And it works! Please inspect each picture provided for actual condition.
Turntable is fully tested and found to be in very good working condition.
- motor spins and is virtually silent. Well not virtually, it is silent
- platter spins, will included belt, and is very smooth
- tonearm moves freely
- tonearm lift (Dexter model) works great. Will lift and drop smoothly
- counterweight is adjustable, screw in and out design
- Cartridge and needle combo sound good, good clear sound from both channels.
Notes:
The what appears to be custom built table top (plywood?) does include a metal base/plinth. Unsure of the model for this metal plinth.
The metal base/plinth includes rubber isolation washers between the table top and metal but due to age they are flat and hard. Will need replacing.
The conversion that took place (from idler wheel to belt) required some modifications:
1. small notches were cut out to the metal motor assembly cover - see pictures
2. one of the posts that hold the metal cover, again for the motor assembly, had to be bent to allow clearance for the belt - see pictures
Playability:
As mentioned the turntable works. The belt is a little finicky, needs to be right on the top of the ball of the motor spindle for it to work properly else it spins off. But once on the ball, it works fine. I did not test the speed with a strobe but to my ears the speed on a 33 1/3 record is accurate. To achieve the 33 1/3 speed no adaptor is needed on the motor spindle and the speed setting set on "Hi". To achieve the 45 speed you need one of the 2 included adaptors (the smaller of the 2) and again the speed on "Hi". To my ears....the speed on 45 seems a bit fast. I did not try the 2nd of the adaptors as I don't have a record that needs spinning faster than 45 rpm.
The tonearm included is a Pritchard ADC 40 model. It is in good condition. No cracks, no scratches and perfectly straight.
The headshell is also a Pritchard.
The cartridge is Andante E.
Unsure of the stylus included but I imagine is also Andante...? It plays well and sounds good. Unsure of how much life is left in this stylus but plays well, sounds good and tracks well.
The very impressive motor on this model is a: Technical Electronics Crop - Hysteresis Synchronous Motor. Look at that serial number 969!!
The RCA cables and power cord are both in good condition. Not old or brittle.
Note the ground cable is soldered to one of the RCA connector ends.
Packaging:
I have shipped plenty of turntables. I will remove the platter and pack separately. Note: the platter spindle/well has a fair amount of liquid oil inside of it. I will need to drain it and wipe it dry before shipping. This means you will need to re-fill it with appropriate oil. I imagine it takes bearing/bushing oil/lubrication. I will also carefully remove the tonearm and tonearm rest before shipping so that they do not stick out and pack them separately and securely. The headshell will also be packed separately.
Shipping:
Will ship via FedEx. Package will require signature upon delivery and will be insured for final selling value.
I will not ship to PO Box or FPO/APO address. International ok but ONLY if you are using eBay's Global Shipping Program.
Returns:
I have tried, in good faith, to accurately describe this item. It is being sold in AS-IS, AS-Pictured and AS-Described condition. Absolutely no returns, no refund and most importantly NO partial refunds after sale.
Bidders:
If you have less than 5 feedbacks in the past 12 month I will insist that you contact me before bidding. If I see a bid from someone with less than 5 feedback rating I will simply cancel the bid. I will do it.
Please - if you have ANY questions ask. I usually respond promptly. My goal is for you to be happy with your purchase. But I also do not want anything left to chance, so ask the question before you bid.
Final note: the pictured 45 ring adaptor, or the records, are NOT included in this listing.
